Potamitissa

High up in the mountains above Limassol, in the quiet village of Potamitissa, the Ambelikos AgroHotel is perfectly placed to ensure that your holiday will be as relaxing or as exciting as you want it to be. Nested in the imposing Troodos mountain range, in the picturesque Potamitissa village that stands at a height of 820 meters above sea level, among pine-clad rocky mountain peaks not far from the highest point of mount Olympus that reaches 1953 meters, the refreshing alpine atmosphere exudes an invigorating and calming feeling..Village history dates Potamitissa back to the middle ages. The inhabitants of the village of Rogia established it, when the Saracen pirates destroyed that village prior to the start of the Ottoman era in 1570. The village church build in Byzantine style, is dedicated to Holy Virgin, gazing regally over the steep riverbanks.
The small hotel rigidly preserves the traditional character and environment of the area. Ambelikos hotel is built on multi levels, on the left banks of Ambelikos River, that divides the village, with spectacular scenery of abundant vegetation, vines, apple and peach trees, olive, walnut and almond trees, and a profusion of wild violets is supported by the unique enviable Mediterranean climate.Ambelikos hotel takes its name from the river that runs below. If you like to get to know the regions wineries and have a wine tasting you will have to follow the ‘Wine Routes’, starting from the core of Cyprus wine ‘the Cyprus Wine Museum’, through the beautiful wine villages of Pafos, to the wild peninsula of Akamas, to the top of Troodos Mountains and into its green heart, all the way round to the wine villages of Limassol and the very special Commandaria Region. 14 designated villages that lie in the Commandaria Routes.
Every year the nearby village has the “Rose Festival”, so come and stay at Ambelikos and have a day trip to see the unique products made from roses, collect them and learn the process of how rose water is made and packed, or sample the taste of the famous “Rose Liqueur” of “Rose Brandy”, just a few of the amazing gifts on offer.
